An Almahata Sitta EL3 fragment: implications for the complex thermal history of enstatite chondrites

چکیده
Abstract Almahata Sitta is a polymict breccia, consisting of many kinds clasts. Here we present our mineralogical and petrological results on an EL3 fragment, MS-177 from Sitta. This fragment shows typical type 3 chondritic texture, well-defined chondrules, isolated silicate minerals, opaque nodules. Most chondrules are enstatite-rich with some having olivine. Although these components chondrites, the mineral abundances compositions different other EL3s. Diopside unusually abundant in MS-177. On hand, perryite daubreelite were not found. The major pyroxene orthoenstatite, silica phase quartz. Fe–Ni metal has relatively high P contents. Troilite enriched Cr Mn. Keilite buseckite From mineralogy experienced high-temperature event under subsolidus conditions. Shock-induced heating for short duration might explain this event. We suggest that E3 chondrites also events such conditions their parent bodies. abundance diopside cannot be explained by secondary thermal may have been primary feature MS-177, formed before accretion to body.

Introduction: In a companion abstract [1], we report evidence for tiny amounts of most likely primordial noble gases with solar-like elemental and isotopic composition admixed to Q-type primordial noble gases in an E chondrite. Here, we discuss possible implications of this finding for terrestrial planet formation. The genetic relation of the noble gases in planetary bodies to those in the Sun,...
متن کاملMagnetism and mineralogy of Almahata Sitta polymict ureilite (= asteroid 2008 TC3): Implications for the ureilite parent body magnetic field
The Almahata Sitta meteorite is the first case of recovered extraterrestrial material originating from an asteroid that was detected in near Earth space shortly before entering and exploding in the high atmosphere. The aims of our project within the 2008 TC3 consortium were investigating Almahata Sitta’s (AS) magnetic signature, phase composition and mineralogy, focussing on the opaque minerals...
متن کاملAlmahata Sitta (=asteroid 2008 TC3) and the search for the ureilite parent body
This article explores what the recovery of 2008 TC3 in the form of the Almahata Sitta meteorites may tell us about the source region of ureilites in the main asteroid belt. An investigation is made into what is known about asteroids with roughly the same spectroscopic signature as 2008 TC3. A population of low-inclination near-Earth asteroids is identified with spectra similar to 2008 TC3. Five...
